The North Fork Championship was created to bring the best kayakers together to race on some of the world’s most difficult whitewater, the North Fork Payette. This very special river humbles even the most talented in our sport, however last year the NFC was a testament of where kayaking is today. The talent of the competitors and the intensity of the river make the NFC the pinnacle of Whitewater kayak racing. Last year the passion for the sport of kayaking was made apparent with intense levels of competition, but even higher levels of camaraderie. We are excited to continue on that momentum! As we gear up for NFC II, and paddlers from across the world make their travel plans to come to Boise, Idaho, the stoke level only increases!

We are very THANKFUL for everyone who helps make this possible, and so STOKED for the North Fork Championship II June 6-8, 2013!!

–The New York Times

Over the course of six albums and a decade of touring, JJ Grey’s grimy blend of front porch soul and down-home storytelling has taken him around the world and back again. Beating the streets on nearly every continent, he and his band Mofro have sewn a continuous thread of laying-it-on-the-line shows that move folks to dance and at times to tears.

JJ was raised in North Florida by a typically Southern extended family that valued hard work and self-reliance. This upbringing permeates his no nonsense approach to writing and performing and has given him an abundance of material to write about in his songs.

“A friend of mine once said that we’re all characters if we’re given enough room to be one. I guess I was lucky enough to be surrounded by people who had plenty of room cause Lord knows I know some larger-than-life ones. I’ve had a lot of laughs and good times with those characters. We’ve shared some hard times too.”

ABOUT:
John Edward has brought a fresh, honest and thought provoking attitude to the world of psychic phenomena. As a psychic medium, author and lecturer, he has, over the last 25 years, helped thousands with his uncanny ability to predict future events and communicate with those who have crossed over to the Other Side.

Since then, his clientele has ranged from young to old, student to professor, people of the clergy, law enforcement agencies and people from everyday life. His clients wait over two years to sit with him for private sessions, and although John is anxious to share his ability with those that need him, he is unwilling to compromise the quality of his work for the quantity that seek him out. He has captivated audiences worldwide.

On his internationally syndicated talk shows, Crossing Over with John Edward and John Edward Cross Country, he uses his unique abilities to connect people with loved ones who have passed on. Deeply compelling, often startling and occasionally humorous, John’s down-to-earth approach has earned him a vast and loyal following.

Today, John is one of the country’s foremost psychic mediums and author of the critically acclaimed New York Times best sellers One Last Time; What if God Were the Sun; Crossing Over: The Stories Behind the Stories, After Life: Answers from the Other Side, Final Beginnings, Practical Praying: Using the Rosary to Enhance Your Life and Infinite Quest. His newest publication, Fallen Masters, a fiction novel, was released in September of 2012.

In October of 2011, John launched THE FIVE as an additional platform to connect with his audience on a deeper level. Members of THE FIVE have access to exclusive monthly web events, as well as to John’s latest electronic novel, Above and Beyond, as it is written in chapter installments. Other benefits include receiving a membership welcome pack, the opportunity to meet John at one of his live events and the chance to win tickets, private readings and more.

John’s broad appeal has led to numerous international tours of Australia and the UK and guest appearances on everything from CNN’s Larry King Live to The Today Show, as well as Oprah! His most recent televised appearances include Dr. Phil, Kim and Kourtney Take New York, Dr. Oz and Anderson. He has also been featured on Entertainment Tonight, Live with Regis & Kelly, The Early Show, The Crier Report, The View, The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, Fox and Friends, Maury, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Dateline, ABC’S 20/20 and the critically acclaimed HBO Special, Life After Life. He also had a cameo appearance on NBC’s Will and Grace and is a regularly featured guest on top-rated morning radio shows, including New York’s WPLJ and Los Angeles’ KROQ.

John has been featured in articles in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Newsday, People, Entertainment Weekly and in the Associated Press, and was named as one of People Magazine’s Most Intriguing People of the Year.

Born and raised on Long Island, NY, John exhibited psychic abilities from an extremely early age, and was deemed “special” by many in his family. The fact that he would uncannily know family history and events that took place prior to his birth solidified that fact. Because no fuss was made over these early experiences, he maintained as normal a childhood as possible. Since Psychic Phenomena was so accepted by his family, it was easy for his abilities to flourish. John embarked on developing his own abilities after an encounter with famed psychic Lydia Clar. Lydia made him aware of his abilities and told him his life’s work would be teaching people about it. That mission has been channeled into his work as a medium which enables him to bring comfort and hope to people by reuniting them with those who they loved, lost…and crossed over.

John resides on Long Island, New York with his wife Sandra and their children, Justin and Olivia, and their two dogs: Coco and Sydney.

Wednesday, June 5th
Idaho Live welcomes Oscar winner Ryan Bingham, with special guest The Wild Feathers, to The Egyptian Theatre returning after his last Boise sell-out show in February 2011. Ryan Bingham won the Academy Award for best original song for “The Weary Kind”, the hauntingly beautiful them song from the film “Crazy Heart” starring Jeff Brygdes.
Tickets are $25 advance and $28 day of show for general admission seating. Advance tickets available at The Record Exchange, The Boise Co-op, The Egyptian Theatre box office, and egyptiantheatre.net beginning Friday, March 13th at 11:00 a.m.

“Bingham, an ex-rodeo bull rider, is electrifying in a somebody-might-take-a-pool-cue-to-the-head kind of way. This convergence of charisma, energy, and songwriting suggests what Springsteen might have been like had he come up in Billy Bob’s instead of the Stone Pony.” – Esquire Magazine, 9 Live Shows a Man Should See

“Ryan Bingham is stepping up and stepping out on his fourth album, ditching his former label Lost Highway and his former band The Dead Horses for a truly independent production. But the results crackle with energy as Bingham delivers a platter that may be his best yet. Bingham’s gritty vocals are as cathartic as ever and these songs are sparkling with rocking riffs and big chords. The one-time pro rodeo rider turned Texas troubadour has blues, country, and Americana influences that are certainly still there. But at his core, Bingham has always been a rock ‘n’ roller and Tomorrowland features him rocking at his best…Bingham seems like he’s just entered his prime here and the live shows are sure to be rewarding as well, since these tunes appear tailor made for jamming out. Tomorrowland is easily a top 10 album of the year candidate for the rock ‘n’ roll crowd. ” – PopMatters by Greg M. Schwartz 23 October, 2012

“I’ll say one thing’s for sure: Tomorrowland—the album and the red-blooded, rattlesnake-eating rebellious attitude—is no place for the weary kind.” 9.1 – Paste Magazine Nico Isaac, Sept 18, 2012

<a href=" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz5SNppHRxc&feature=player_embedded" title="VIDEO "HEART OF RHYTHM"">VIDEO “HEART OF RHYTHM”
Official Lyric Video

Tomorrowland, the title of Ryan Bingham’s new album, sounds futuristic, but the Oscar winning singer/songwriter hints, “Maybe it’s not so much about looking ahead as it is about leaving things behind.”

“There are no more rules,” he continues. Recording Tomorrowland for his own Axster Bingham Records felt “totally liberating,” he says, and allowed him the freedom to “do whatever we want and not have someone else’s agenda on it.”

Tomorrowland contains plenty of the pliant acoustic guitar work that has marked Bingham’s previous studio sets, but Tomorrowland expands his musical landscape exponentially: Guitars howl into keyboards and drums stomp against strings, all bolstered by Bingham’s jagged, weather-beaten vocals. Despite his assertion that “I always try to be hopeful,” Bingham’s songs remain full of dark, often mysterious, places where light struggles to get in. On the bracing, haunting “No Help From God,” he sings in a world-weary rasp, “Some say that angels are all looking down/I only saw vultures circling around.”

Bingham recorded Tomorrowland at a makeshift studio in a friend’s empty house in Malibu, California that turned out to have an interesting heritage: it once belonged to Kris Kristofferson, one of his musical heroes. “I thought, who knows what you’re going to find in these walls’,” Bingham laughs.

Bingham and co-producer Justin Stanley (Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow) brought in a soundboard and microphones and set up the drums right in the middle of the high ceiling room. They recruited in a small core of musicians to play on the album as needed.

“That’s what was so nice about the record: we weren’t on a time line or in crunch time,” Bingham says. “ I really tried to distance myself from any of that. I was like ‘I’m in a house, I’m not spending a lot of money. I can take all the time I need and really get it right.’”

And Bingham is the first to admit that after the rush of the last few years, he needed to slow the pace. The Oscar, Golden Globe, and Grammy wins for his song “The Weary Kind” from 2009’s movie “Crazy Heart” caused a wonderful commotion that was at times humbling and overwhelming to Bingham, who was named the Americana Music Association’s 2010 artist of the year.

THE WILD FEATHERS
Ricky Young, Joel King, Taylor Burns and Preston Wimberly, grew up steeped in music; playing solo gigs, touring with local bands and working at venues. The four guys came together in Austin in 2010 through coincidence, mutual friends, and a shared love of the classics: Petty, Dylan, Cash, The Band, Allman Bros, Neil Young and Willie Nelson. They immediately began playing together and became The Wild Feathers. The young band spent the next year writing and defining their sound and touring around the country, sharing the stage with Delta Spirit, Surfer Blood and The Heavy, even landing an opening spot on Paul Simon’s 2011 fall tour.

The Wild Feathers are a truly American band: their music takes elements of the best of rock, country, folk and blues music and reshapes it in a way that is both unique and modern.
Over 4 million records sold!
3 Grammy Award Nominations and 2 wins!

Brooklyn originals They Might Be Giants are on tour with a new show. TMBG’s boundless creativity, rowdy and spontaneous performance, combined with their vast repertoire of memorable songs has made their live shows the thing of legend. With a brand new album, DVD, and iphone app, there is much for They Might Be Giants to celebrate. Don’t miss this unforgettable show.

They Might Be Giants have perfected their deliriously catchy, original sound over the past three decades. The two-time GRAMMY winning Brooklyn originals return with charming wit, electrifying pop melodies and just enough bass clarinet on their 16th studio album. Created at the private studio of their long time collaborator and producer Patrick Dillett (David Byrne, Mary J. Blige, Tegan and Sara), Nanobots will be released March 5, 2013 via Idlewild Recordings and distributed through Megaforce.

Nanobots, the new album due out on March 5th, finds the band in fine form. Blending the band’s signature storytelling, some dueling horns and sly humor, “Call You Mom” is a caffeinated pop gem. Title track “Nanobots” puts a dark cartoonish spin on the world of technology while the call and response chorus and percussive guitar line of “You’re On Fire” dares even the grumpiest wallflower not to dance.

They Might Be Giants’ innovative Dial-A-Song service and imaginative high concept, low budget music videos stood the band apart early in their career quickly rocketing the alternative rockers to mainstream success. Known for recording numerous themes most notably The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and the GRAMMY-winning Malcolm In the Middle theme, the band has 2 platinum albums, 2 gold albums, and have been nominated for 3 GRAMMYs, winning two. Known for their energized live show and love of the road, the band will kick off a 60-date international tour on February 27.

Biography:
VANDAVEER is the song-singing, record-making, globetrotting project penned and put forth by alt-folk tunesmith Mark Charles Heidinger. Born in Ohio, raised in Kentucky, and currently camped out in the nation’s capital, Vandaveer offers up melodic Americana that is both haunting and easy, forlorn and welcoming, with stories as universal as the songs they inhabit. Vandaveer shapeshifts from studio to stage and back with a revolving cast of characters, most prominent among them Rose Guerin, offering up the loveliest harmonies heard this side of Eden.

Vandaveer has released three full-length albums and one EP since taking flight in ’07 — Grace & Speed (2007) / Divide & Conquer (2009) / A Minor Spell EP (2010) / Dig Down Deep (2011).

We have a season filled with outstanding operas, superlative collaborations and voices that will knock your socks off! Verdi’s Falstaff is an opera for theater and music lovers alike, and is bound to make you laugh with the classical humor based on Shakespeare’s character. Pagliacci, preceded by Pulcinella Suite danced by Ballet Idaho, is a favorite amongst opera lovers and is sure to be a full night of commedia dell’arte entertainment. The timely Susannah is set in the period of McCarthyism and echoes political and religious issues we still struggle with today.

But it’s not just the operas that will floor you: we’ve got an entire season of events aside from the main stage operas that are designed to keep your love of the art in full swing. Our à la carte productions are: the family opera Hansel & Gretel, based on the folktale written by The Grimm Brothers, to be performed at the end of December; The Winterreise Project, which is a collaboration between national choreographer Lauren Edson (former Trey McIntyre Project dancer) and our outstanding baritone Jason Detwiler, to be performed in February; and the continuation of our summer musical in concert series at the Idaho Botanical Garden with The Sound of Music in Concert to be performed in July 2013.

TUE NOV 20th & WED NOV 21st at
6pm, doors open at 5pm!
Annual canned food drive.
Bring a can of pet food or people food for entry to Frank Capra’s 1946 Classic
Starring James Stewart and Donna Reed.

It’s A Wonderful Life (1946), originally made for Liberty Films, is one of the most popular and heartwarming films ever made by director Frank Capra. Frank Capra regarded this film as his own personal favorite – it was also James Stewart’s favorite of all his feature films.

It was actually a box-office flop at the time of its release, and only became the Christmas movie classic in the 1970s due to repeated television showings at Christmas-time when its copyright protection slipped and it fell into the public domain in 1974 and TV stations could air it for free. [Republic Pictures restored its copyright claim to the film in 1993, with exclusive video rights to it. Currently, it can be shown only on the NBC-TV network, and its distribution rights belong to Paramount Pictures.]

The film’s screenplay (credited as being written by Frances Goodrich, Albert Hackett, and Capra himself, with additional scenes by Jo Swerling) was based on “The Greatest Gift,” an original short story first written on a Christmas card by Philip Van Doren Stern. Uncredited for their work on the script were Dorothy Parker, Dalton Trumbo, and Clifford Odets.

It is actually a dark, bittersweet post-war tale of a savings-and-loan manager who struggles against a greedy banker and his own self-doubting nature in a small town. Earnest do-gooder George Bailey (James Stewart) recognizes his life as wonderful and truly rich, even in its humdrum and bleak nature, only after suffering many hardships, mishaps and fateful trials (including compromised dreams of youth to leave the town and seek fame and fortune, other sacrifices, dismay, losses and the threat of financial ruin, and suicide). He is given encouragement by a whimsical, endearing, trainee-angel named Clarence (Henry Travers).

The story turns Dickensian (similar to A Christmas Carol, although told from Bob Cratchit’s point-of-view rather than from Scrooge’s) when the hysterical, despairing, and melancholy family man is shown what the small town (Bedford Falls, now renamed Pottersville after the town’s evil tycoon) would be like without him. It’s a frightening, nightmarish, noirish view of the world (at Christmas-time) that brings him back from self-destruction. He returns to the idyllic, small-town world that he left, with renewed faith and confidence in life itself. Hence, the film’s title: It’s a Wonderful Life.

The plot of the film was copied in the rags-to-riches fantasy storyline (also with a guardian angel played by Michael Caine) of Disney’s Mr. Destiny (1990), starring James Belushi, and in Brett Ratner’s The Family Man (2000) with Nicolas Cage. The famous “Pottersville” alternate reality scenes were also referenced in Robert Zemeckis’ Back to the Future Part II (1989), in which the small town of Hill Valley was transformed into a Las Vegas-like Babylon in 1985, with young Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) in the role of George Bailey.

The picture earned five Academy Award nominations: Best Picture, Best Actor (James Stewart in his first film in almost six years), Best Director (Capra), Best Sound Recording and Best Film Editing, but won no Oscars. (It was eclipsed by William Wyler’s award-winning The Best Years of Our Lives.)
